How Vishal has built a rewarding career at Yelp



Say hello to Vishal, a Strategic Account Executive 3 on our Restaurant Sales team! Over the last six years, Vishal’s career has transformed – from being at a crossroads about what step to take next to becoming a top sales representative and accomplishing his lifelong goal of becoming a homeowner. Tell us about your journey at Yelp

Oh, where to begin? I suppose that’s how every good story starts! Coming into Yelp, I was at a crossroads in my career, and I wasn’t sure what I would do next. I had no idea what was ahead! Over the last six years, I have had some President’s Club appearances and was one of 25 people in my org (and at the time, the least tenured s) that was chosen to start up our former office in Washington D.C. I had some #1 rep appearances along the way, as well. More than anything though, Yelp gave me stability in my life.

I developed my skills and explored the Midmarket Sales space for about a year, and now, I have transitioned into a SaaS sales role in the restaurant org (with a team that I love).

Fast forward, and I just accomplished one of my dreams in life – becoming a homeowner. That’s all thanks to Yelp and the support it has given me over the last 6.5 years.

What is something that surprised you about working at Yelp?

我不敢相信这里h I have developed personally and professionally since starting my journey at Yelp. This job has shown me my strengths and weaknesses so clearly, and it has taught me how to fine-tune my interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. I am also surprised at how this job has helped me to increase my confidence.

How has working in sales helped you grow personally?

My Yelp family has become my real family. I have a network and group of friends that I will have for life. Even folks that I’ve only had brief interactions with are people that I know I could reach out to when I need a helping hand. Being here has taught me how to listen better and work on personal accountability and self-discipline.

What does a typical day look like in your role?

My day typically starts with a roundup, where we chat with our teammates and catch up. I then start vetting through my leads, looking at past pitches and accounts that could have fallen through the cracks. I then work on outreach and try to empathize and understand the needs of the people I am speaking with.

What is your favorite part of the work you do here?

Local businesses are the lifeblood of our economy. It starts at the ground level with our interactions, and it’s important to adopt a helping mindset because, at the end of the day, that is what we are trying to do – help businesses thrive. The best part of my job is hearing from past clients who have seen results. I love helping business owners take a leap of faith and learn about our tools to achieve their business goals. If my clients are happy, so am I!

What is your favorite part of Yelp’s culture?
