When you order fromβ汉堡, it likely isn’t your first fast casual bun-and-patty, and it won’t be your last. But there’s a good chance you’ve never had one like it. I talked with founder Adrian Wong about how his tech-powered cooking process is changing the world of fast food, one burger at a time, and what got him in the game to begin with.
Why did you decide to start your business? Tell us your backstory!
I loved two things about tech startups: innovation and culture. I wanted to take those two principles into a different industry. My love for burgers brought me to developing Beta Burger with the use of technology to cook our burgers and a customer + employee centric experience. My background was in finance, I understood the business side. What I did not know was the restaurant side, so I went to work at two quick service restaurants at the bottom to learn.
Why do you love doing business here in Boston?
Why I love doing business in Boston is 1 in 3 residents are under the age of 33. That is my core demographic, and it allows me to cater to their needs while also gaining vital feedback from them as we refine our products.
What’s the most helpful piece of customer feedback you’ve received?
A lot of feedback from our customers relates to the product, in which some can be changed and many times cannot. The most helpful piece of customer feedback, I believe, is how they gauge our customer service and experience. If they didn’t get exceptional customer service, it magnifies even the slightest flaw in our product and ultimately the experience. We take great pride in providing the best customer service in the burger industry.
What’s your advice for other business owners or someone who wants to start a small business?
Make your assumptions, but make sure you find out if those assumptions are actually true. Don’t run on assumptions alone.
