Yelp’s mission is to connect consumers with great local businesses, which drives our focus on providing the best user experience across all of our platforms. Today, we’re announcing new updates to the Yelp Android app across the homepage, search results and map, business pages and more. These new updates make discovering and searching for a local business even easier and exceedingly intuitive.
New and Improved Android User Experience
The entire Android app will soon be updated with a fresh and modern design from sign up through search and discovery. This month, we’re rolling out a more visual, vertical home feed to the Yelp Android app that highlights updates from local businesses and popular menu items at nearby restaurants, with the surfacing of more user-generated content to come. Now, Android users can find an updated search experience that allows them to more easily use Yelp’s map functionality to explore different areas and compare nearby businesses. When visiting a Yelp business page, Android users will also see an updated design that better highlights photos and other helpful information about the business.
Driving more user engagement on Android
In addition to our improved homepage, search results and business pages, we’ve also made significant enhancements on the backend to improve app load times, significantly reduce app errors, and provide a better overall app experience. Users can also expect to see new Android updates roll out faster in the future.
The feedback we’ve received on these updates from our Android users has been overwhelmingly positive. As of August 1, Yelp’s app rating in theGoogle Play Storehas increased to 4.3 stars overall, or an increase of more than half a star since December 2021.
By introducing and piloting new updates on the Yelp iOS app first, we’ve been able to learn from our users and iterate based on their feedback, allowing us to roll out the most impactful features and experiences to Yelp Android users.
