Say hello to Destine, a Senior Collector on our Accounting team. Destine’s#FiveStarCareerjourney began in August 2021, and within her first year at Yelp, she was promoted to Senior Collector. Take a look as she shares what her journey at Yelp has been like so far.
What does a typical day look like in your role?
A typical day as a Senior Collector is busy! I start my morning by returning voicemails and responding to emails while our phone queues open up for the day. After the morning rush slows down, my focus shifts to my current duties: reviewing and approving financial documents and processing payment requests for our high-dollar clientele. I do all of these tasks while answering incoming calls. I also strive to hit my daily call goal of outreach to clients. It is never a slow day in the Collections world!
Why did you choose Yelp as an employer?
I wanted to work for Yelp because of the incrediblecultureandbenefitsI heard about. I had a few friends who were working here, and they wouldn’t stop raving about how amazing the company is. I was also looking for a job that would support my routine and lifestyle as a working mom. Working from home offered flexibility to me as a single mom, as my schedule can be chaotic at times. Yelp offered me the relief I was searching for and so much more.
How has your manager supported you in your path to growth?
I think I have one of the best managers around. He has helped me grow beyond my own vision in my career. I am a fast learner, so I have always been able to ask questions about other programs and be trained on them to better assist our team as a whole. Whenever I have questions, I feel comfortable asking and setting up a training session to further my career growth. My manager keeps the communication lines open, which encourages me to ask questions about anything and everything. I trust that I can have a tough conversation with my manager if needed and that I will be guided to continue growing in my career. I couldn’t ask for a better manager to support all of my career goals!
How does Yelp support your personal and professional lives?

I appreciate the flexibility that I have in my role to be able to take my son to an unexpected doctor’s appointment or attend a parent-teacher conference or award ceremony at his school. Yelp truly cares about its employees and I always feel encouraged to use my time off when needed. I have never had a job that encouraged a healthy work-life balance until I started at Yelp, and I am so grateful.
