Yelp Helps in Maine

#YelpHelps is a once a month series where Yelpers give back to their local neighborhoods through some hands-on community service. To end our year of volunteerism here in Maine we spent time with majestic mustangs, made cards for kids, and helped at a holiday party. Check it out!

We visited the Ever After Mustang Rescue – an NPO that rescues and rehabilitates previously adopted mustangs and either transitions them to new homes and useful lives, or offers lifetime care to unadoptable horses – in October to help clean out stalls and spend some one-on-one time with the beautiful equines. It was a breathtaking experience, so check out the Photos and Reviewshere.Laura M: “Another amazing Yelp Helps Event! Ever After Mustang Rescue is truly an amazing place! Mona Jerome – you are an awe inspiring woman! You really are an unsung hero. I learned so much about mustangs and their plight in this country.”

For November we were invited to the Greater Portland Landmarks to make birthday cards for the Confetti Foundation. Before invoking our creative spirit, we learned that the GPL works to preserve and revitalize Greater Portland’s legacy of historic buildings, neighborhoods, and green spaces. The Confetti Foundation, based in Rhode Island, supplies birthday parties to children who have to spend their special day in the hospital. Our Yelpers enjoyed treats like cake while creating fun greetings in the comfort of GPL’s Stafford House. Reviews and Photos can be foundhere.

Jess R: “I love #YelpHelps and how on a monthly basis I can give back. Whether it be pulling weeds, cuddling pets, or leverage my crafty hobby of card making to brighten a sick child’s birthday.”

我t’s an annual tradition for Yelp Maine to end their year of volunteerism with our friends at the Animal Refuge League helping at their Holiday Open House. Not only is it a festive time, many animals find their forever home during this event as well! Reviews and Photos righthere!

Marc B: “I was chopping the ends of Christmas trees, helping put trees on cars, and helping out with the swarms of people passing through! I do have to say it was fun being a lumberjack for a day. Everyone that went to this event was incredibly fun and it just verified how great our Yelp community is.”

“Do a little bit of good where you are. It is those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” — Desmond Tutu. What another wonderful year of volunteerism! From cuddling with kitties to planting a garden, from cleaning remote islands to cooking a warm meal for those in need, Yelp Maine knows it feels good to do good. We’re looking forward to our 2018 season of #YelpHelps and hope you’ll join us! Keep an eye out on ourCalendarfor more information!
